British Values

I recognize the need to protect children from radicalization and promote the values of,

                                Democracy

                                Rule of Law

                                Mutual Respect

                                Religious and cultural tolerance

As part of my role as a childminder, I have a duty to keep myself up to date with all legislation involved with safeguarding the children in my setting. Some of the most recent documentation includes the new Prevent Duty Guidance valid as of July 2015 (updated April 2021). The Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015 places a duty on Early Years settings to, "have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism" (The Prevent Duty). The new documentation will be used and referred to alongside other safeguarding documents such as "Working Together to Safeguard Children". I am aware of the Department for Education telephone helpline (020 7340 7264) to raise any concerns relating to extremism. I may also raise concerns on the department for education customer help portal at https://customerhelpportal.education.gov.uk/. I am aware of the signs and indicators of extremism and radicalization and have completed e-learning via Childcare.co.uk. If I have any concerns about extremism or radicalization regarding any child or member of their family, I would report my concerns to the relevant Prevent Officer at the Local Authority.

The fundamental values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs are already implicitly embedded in the 2025(updated) EYFS framework. I will ensure that I promote good manners and respect for other people’s cultures and beliefs. I celebrate relevant festivals throughout the year that celebrate our similarities and differences. I practice democracy with the children.  I teach about decision making and about respecting each other’s views and values, talking about feelings and learning to share ideas and take turns during play. I make sure children have access to the wider community and resources promoting this.  I encourage children to not stereotype and to be considerate and accepting of others, despite their differences, and to respect each other.
