Equal Opportunities
I will do my best to actively promote equality of opportunity, access and education for all children. I will ensure I treat all children with equal respect, concern and care and will actively take a stand against discriminatory behavior.
I am familiar with, and conform to, legislation regarding equal opportunity including the Equality Act 2010, and try to follow best practice in all circumstances. The equality Act 2010 states that I have a legal responsibility to ensure against all forms of discrimination including, socioeconomic, disability, sex, gender, age, race and culture. I also follow The Code of Practice (2014) which covers the 0-25 age range and includes guidance relating to disabled children and young people as well as those with SEND, The Children and Families Act (2014) and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations (2014). Please refer to my SEND policy for further information.
I will value, promote and respect different racial origins, cultures, languages and non-discriminatory traditions and each child’s identity will be respected and celebrated without racial or gender stereotyping whilst attending my setting.
I will not discriminate against children on grounds of health, status, age or sexual-orientation.
I will provide equality in learning, allowing each child to develop to their full potential, taking into account the individualism of age, stage of development, gender, ethnicity, home language and ability.
I will provide, and make sure that all children have access to books and toys which provide positive images and examples of diversity of life in our society.
I will challenge racist and discriminatory remarks, attitudes and behavior from the children in my care and from other adults.
I will always try to help children to feel good about themselves and others by celebrating the differences which make us all unique.
I will actively promote equality with posters, discussion and literature.
I will encourage discussion about different cultures, and will promote them in a positive way.
I will ensure that if a child I care for has a language other than English as their first language, I will use media and literature to positively promote their first language. I will also ensure that every child has the best opportunity to gain a firm knowledge of English in order to excel in peer interactions and social situations.
I will support every child I care for in their choice of religion, adhering to all religious prerequisites for that particular child regarding dress, diet etc.
I will respond positively to any questions a child poses regarding religion, race, gender, disability, age and culture.
I will educate all children in my care to be tolerant and caring of others and actively teach empathy.
