Policies and Procedures
Healthy Eating
I will encourage healthy eating by implementing this policy, leading by example and supporting parents in providing healthy lunch boxes.
Children need a balanced diet that is low in processed sugar and saturated fat, and high in natural vitamins, nutrients and fibre, with regular appropriate size portions of carbohydrate and protein. All allergies and religious observances will be respected and steps taken to avoid cross contamination. However, due to the nature of children, I cannot guarantee the absence of cross contamination. Regular cleaning of communal eating areas will be undertaken with vacuuming, sweeping and disinfecting. Lunch box contents will be monitored and anything inappropriate will not be offered to your child but instead it will be removed and returned to parents at the end of the day. Children will be closely monitored during meal times. All children should be supplied with at least 3 portions of fruit and/or vegetables in their lunch boxes each day, a moderate source of protein and a moderate source of carbohydrate. Over 50% of the food supplied should be unprocessed fruit and vegetables. Under no circumstances should glass, ceramic or other breakable material be sent in a lunchbox. All yogurt sent should be in a pouch or tube.
Foods that should NOT be sent in lunch boxes:
Chips
Potato fritters or cakes
Chicken nuggets
Lollies
Sweets
Chocolate bars or chocolate biscuits
Nuts

Drinks
