Policies and Procedures

Nappy Changing

It is important that I work in partnership with parents to ensure their child is comfortable throughout their time in my care. I am happy to accept children and babies in disposable or cloth nappies. I have developed this policy to ensure the safety and comfort of every child in nappies.

I ask that parents:

Ensure their child is wearing a clean nappy on arrival, wherever possible.

Provide a daily supply of nappies, creams, wipes and waste bags for their child.

Provide at least one change of clothes.

Provide a supply of spare clothes for potty training.

Keep me updated with potty training progress in order for me to provide continuity.

I will ensure:

Each child is comfortable and that I change nappies regularly.

I will clean the changing mat after each child with a suitable disinfectant wipe or spray.

I will wash my hands thoroughly after each nappy changes or change gloves.

I will return any soiled cloth nappies or clothes in a nappy bag.

I will ensure your child is changed on a safe surface such as the floor.

I am unable to soak cloth nappies for hygiene reasons.

If I need to change a child whilst out, all children in my care will be taken to the changing station in order to safeguard their care.

I will not leave children unattended whilst changing another child.

I wish to work with parents regarding potty training in order to aid the child’s development in this area. When you feel your child is ready for this step, please let me know so that I can work with you towards a consistent approach. Scientific research says children can be ready to be potty trained around eighteen months and are often capable of being potty trained before they are 30 months; however, every child is different.

For potty training to be successful it should be conducted in a private and secure environment, preferably in the child’s own home.

If you have any concerns regarding this policy, please do not hesitate to discuss them with me.
