Policies and Procedures
S.E.N.D.
I will do my best to actively promote equality of opportunity, access and education for all children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). I will ensure I treat all children with equal respect, concern and care, and I will actively take a stand against discriminatory behavior. Where necessary and reasonable I will put additional measures in place for children with SEND. I will be vigilant regarding any undiagnosed or developing evidence of special educational needs and disabilities, and take action on this.
I follow The SEND Code of Practice (2014 updated 2024) covering the 0-25 age range. This includes guidance relating to disabled children and young people as well as those with SEND, and refers to The Children and Families Act (2014) and the Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations (2014). I will conform to this legislation to accommodate making any reasonable changes that are necessary to my routines, facilities or premises, in order to accommodate any child with disabilities and enable them to use my services.
I will value, promote and respect all children including those with special educational needs and disabilities. I will not discriminate against children on grounds of special educational needs and disabilities. I will provide equality in learning, allowing each child to develop to their full potential, taking into account the individualism of age, stage of development, gender, ethnicity, home language and ability of ALL children. I will provide, and make sure that all children have access to books and toys which provide positive images and examples of special educational needs and disabilities.
I will challenge discriminatory remarks, attitudes and behavior from the children in my care, and from other adults, regarding any aspect of special educational needs and disabilities.
I will always try to help children to feel good about themselves and others by celebrating the differences which make us all unique, and similarities where we can form bonds and build bridges. I will actively promote equality with posters and discussion regarding special educational needs and disabilities. I will take extra care around children who have special educational needs and disabilities and English as an additional language. I will respond positively to any questions a child poses regarding special educational needs and disabilities. I will educate all children in my care to be tolerant and caring of others. I will take care to assess the children in my care regularly and will discuss any indications those assessments may give regarding special educational needs and disabilities with parents or carers of that child. I will actively and positively engage in multi-agency working with any child that has special educational needs and disabilities. I will use the “The SEND Code of Practice” method for SEN Support in the Early Years (section 5.36 - 5.51) of Assess, Plan, Do, Review format of provision to support all children in my setting that have, or may have, special educational needs and disabilities.
